Picking the right time to shoot is key to these shots. You really only have a one hour window where you can get the results. I got up at 6am to be at the location at 6.45am (December 22nd) The sunrise in the east behind the Sage began to light the scene at about 7am, shot on Sony A7r on manual focus with a metabones adaptor and Canon 24-70mm lens 2sec exposure f10 and 100 iso.
The shot above is a 3 exposure stitched panoramic in Lightroom (really easy to do).....go have a go and get up and shoot.
